Our team of VAST Certified Athletic Trainers has experience with professional sports teams. VAST Head Athletic Trainer, Coach Edward J. Modica has worked with the New York Jets, New York Dragons, and US OPEN Tennis Tournament. Coach Drew Watchtel is the Head Athletic Trainer for the New York Dragons and Molloy College, as well as a former athletic trainer for the New York Jets and New York Titans Lacrosse Team.
Steven C. DeSousa, PT, DPT, MA, OCS
Dr. DeSousa has been a practicing Physical Therapist for the past 22 years, and is currently the Director of Sportsmedicine at Saint Anthony’s HS in South Huntington NY, in which he was appointed in 2003. Dr. DeSousa has developed sports injury prevention and management programs, concussion baseline testing and management programs as well as researched the cause of injuries in the various athletic populations. He has been a guest presenter on News 12 Long Island, discussing various aspects of injury prevention, concussion management and overall athletic health and wellness.
Dr. DeSousa educational background and achievements as a Physical Therapist include receiving a Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2006 from Drexel University, Graduate certificate in Hand and Upper Extremity Rehabilitation from Drexel University in 2003, Board Certification as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist in 2003, by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties and recertified in 2010, Masters of Arts in Physical Therapy 1993 Touro College, Bachelor of Science in Human Health Sciences from Touro College in 1992.

A Certified Athletic Trainer, Ed Modica has been the working for East Northport Physical Therapy and Saint Anthony’s HS since February of 2009. He has dedicated himself to the field of sports medicine for the past 25 years. As Head Athletic Trainer, he understands the prestigious position he has working for one of the best high school athletic programs in the country.
A degree in Exercise Science / Athletic Training from Hofstra University, Ed has acquired experiences at all levels of athletic training. His work experience includes an 11 years as Head ATC for Molloy College in Rockville Centre. He work as a, physician’s extender, to world renowned orthopod Irving V. Glick MD and Orthopedic Surgeon Kenneth D. Montgomery MD. Head Athletic Trainer for the NEW YORK DRAGONS Arena Football for 8 seasons. Athletic Trainer for the US OPEN TENNIS TOURNAMENT in ’97, ’98, ’99, ’04 and ’05. He also was an Intern for the NFL’s NEW YORK JETS in ’90.
